Disney's 'Splash Mountain' Is Being Reimagined

June 25, 2020

You'll still need a poncho for this ride.

"Splash Mountain" as fans know it will now be a thing of the past as Disney announced today that the ride will be reimagined with the theme of Disney's 2009 film "The Princess and The Frog," Disney's first film featuring a Black princess.

The ride is currently based on the 1946 Disney film "Song of the South," which has long been criticized for employing racist stereotypes.

According to People, the ride's storyline will now include Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.

According to a statement shared with People, the rebranding is "a project Imagineers have been working on since last year."

The statement continues, "The retheming of Splash Mountain is of particular importance today. The new concept is inclusive - one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year."

Disneyland recently announced that their July 17th reopening of the park will now be put on hold due to "multiple reasons."
