What Are Drake and His Father Fighting Over?

The artist’s latest feud is in the family

October 9, 2019

Feuds in the rap game are nothing new, but rarely does it happen with your own father. After verbally punching past Meek Mill, Kanye West, and Pusha T – the latest beef for Drake comes courtesy of his Dad, Dennis Graham.

During an interview with Nick Cannon for his radio show, Graham recalled a conversation he had with his son, asking the artist why he painted him as an absentee father in his rhymes. "I have always been with Drake," Dennis explained to Cannon. "I said, 'Drake, why are you saying all of this different stuff about me, man? This is not cool.' And he goes, 'Dad, it sells records.'"

The response was quick from the “Nice For What” star, who took to his Instagram Story to refute his father’s claim and to demand that his songs are honest. "Woke up today so hurt, man. My father will say anything to anyone that's willing to listen to him," Drake wrote. "It's sad when family gets like this, but what can we really do? That's the people we are stuck with. Every bar I ever spit was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept."

Drake has rapped about his father and the struggles within his family since his first release, remaining consistent about their situation. The two have since reconciled, with Dennis joining Drake on stage at the Billboard Music Awards in 2017. The two also appeared together later in 2017 in an ad for Drake’s whiskey brand.
