Tell us if this sounds familiar.

You're outside, enjoying an after-work drink, the evening sun gentle, the air temperate...and, before you know it, you're headed back inside because of one of God's more annoying creations...that is to say, the mosquito.

Many a summer evening has been ruined by these insects, and it happens so often that you have to it worse here in Philly than it is in other areas?

Well, wonder no longer.  The science is in.  Survey says:  YES, it is worse here than in other areas.

A new report from pest control company Terminix has Philadelphia as the seventh biggest "mosquito city," which outranks most other regions of the country.  Terminex utilized its own data to create the ranking, poring over calls they receive throughout the U.S. for mosquito-related services.

Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, is officially the top mosquito city, while two others in the East, New York and Washington, D.C., ranked 2 and 3, respectively.

Why does this matter?

Well, as annoying as mosquitoes are, the annoyance is not the true problem.  Mosquitoes can transmit diseases such as Zika, West Nile, Malaria, and Dengue Fever, and are actually classified by the World Health Organization as the world's deadliest animal.  We are fortunate in our part of the world that these afflictions are not common, but mosquitoes represent a a very real danger for a vast portion of the world's population.

Prevention is key, both to avoid disease AND annoyance, and you can check out Terminex's report and some prevention tips HERE.
