PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This weekend, there are plenty of chances to show some love to the people — or things — that matter most to you.

Get an advanced taste of Valentine’s Day with a historic candy-making demonstration, a Victorian paper valentine-making class, or a 5K at the zoo.

And while the weather remains temperate, enjoy an evening hike in Roxborough or bike across Fishtown for some vegan pizza.

Philly Theatre Week and the Philadelphia Auto Show coincide through next weekend, so don’t forget to take advantage of all the events while you can.

EVENT: All Aboard! Philly’s Trains & Trolleys

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Meet inside 30th Street Station, next to Archangel Michael Statue, Philadelphia

DETAILS: Have you ever wanted to get a firsthand look at Philly’s subway history? In this unique tour, you will see everything from train lines to Germantown and Northeast Philly, which were never finished, to abandoned revenue train platforms. 

PRICE: General admission is $20


EVENT: Owl Prowl

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 6 to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, 8450 Hagy’s Mill Road, Roxborough

DETAILS: Go on an evening hike to listen and look for signs of these nocturnal hunters. Remember to dress for the weather and bring a flashlight. 

PRICE: $5 to $10; registration is required


EVENT: Vegan Pizza Crawl on Bikes

DATE/TIME: Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Meet at Pizza Brain, 2313 Frankford Ave., Fishtown

DETAILS: Celebrate National Pizza Day in environmentally friendly fashion by biking around to some restaurants notorious for their vegan pizzas. The ride will go from Pizza Brain to Slice Pizzeria to Triangle Tavern.

EVENT: Cupid’s Chase 5K

DATE/TIME: Saturday; registration starts at 7 a.m.

WHERE: Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 W. Girard Ave., West Philadelphia

DETAILS: Whether you run or walk, this 5K has a little something for everyone. It benefits Community Options, which provides residential and employment services to people with disabilities. 

PRICE: Individual registration is $35; other participation levels available


EVENT: Historic Candy Making Demonstration

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 11 to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Pottsgrove Manor, 100 W. King St., Pottstown

DETAILS: Sugar was an expensive ingredient in the 18th century. Roll up your sleeves and assist cooks as they make desserts the old-fashioned way. Help put the finishing touches on these colonial sweet treats. 

PRICE: Suggested donation is $2


EVENT: Making Victorian Valentines

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Penn Treaty Museum, 900 E. Columbia Ave., Fishtown

DETAILS: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, make your own paper valentine while learning about perfume recipes and discovering artifacts recovered from the area.

DATE/TIME: Saturday through Feb. 17

WHERE: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St., Center City

DETAILS: See the newest vehicle innovations from all your favorite makes during the Auto Show. There will be special events, opportunities to ride and more. 

PRICE: General admission is $14; discounted rate are available for groups


EVENT: Lunar New Year Flower Market

DATE/TIME: Saturday, noon to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Rail Park, 1300 Noble St., Center City

DETAILS: Learn calligraphy, dance with a dragon, and try some themed brews during this outdoor market at the Rail Park. There will be plenty of flowers for sale, including arrangements and wreaths.

EVENT: Philly Theatre Week

DATE: Now through Feb.16

WHERE: Various locations across the Delaware Valley

DETAILS: This 10-day celebration will have more than 300 events open to the public. More than 75 different theater companies will participate in readings, interactive events, productions and more.
